The Pioneer reported that the secretary of ministry of Coal Mr SK Srivastava reviewed coal mining operations of the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, the second largest coal producing subsidiary of the Coal India Limited
With a target for 8.5% growth rate in coal production in the country during the Twelfth Plan period to be achieved, Mr Srivastava went into details of problems faced by the MCL authorities. MCL CMD Mr AN Sahay was present.
It was pointed out that prolonged rains during this year made evacuation of coal troublesome due to slippery conditions of roads making movement of earthmoving machinery unsafe in opencast mines. However, despite such hurdles, the overall performance of the MCL has so far remained positive, pointed out.
Mr Srivastava visited the Bhubneshwari Opencast Project and inspected coal production and transportation operations. He also chaired a meeting of the MCL management and specially reviewed the coal movement by railways and supply to the power sector, said sources.
