The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday cancelled the bail of bureaucrat Ms Y Srilakshmi in the illegal iron ore mining case involving the Obulapuram Mining Company owned by former Karnataka tourism minister Gali Janardhana Reddy.

Ms Srilakshmi has also been ordered by the court to surrender before the special court for Central Bureau of Investigation cases before January 6.

The high court ordered the cancellation of the bail following a petition filed by the CBI challenging the special court’s order on December 2 granting bail to the bureaucrat.

The investigating agency, in its petition, contended that the IAS officer could influence the investigations, and the court agreed with its argument that it was not proper to release Ms Srilakshmi on bail when investigations were on and other accused were in jail.

Mr Srilakshmi, who was Family Welfare commissioner at the time of her arrest by the CBI on November 28, was granted bail by the CBI court on December 2, a day after she was sent to jail. The government subsequently suspended her from service.

The high court had on December 16 cancelled the bail of Mr VD Rajagopal the former vice CMD of the state owned Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation.

Mr Rajagopal, Mr Janardhana Reddy and his brother in law Mr BV Srinivasa Reddy are currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail in the city for their alleged involvement in the illegal mining case.
