JSPL observes National Voluntary Blood Donation Day

Orissa Diary reported that Jindal Steel and Power Limited, in partnership with Orissa State Aids Control Society, has organized a mass rally in Bhubaneswar to mark the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. Dr Rabindra Kumar Nath additional project director at OSACS & Director State Blood Transfusion council flagged off the rally called Donate Blood Save Four Lives. More than 600 voluntary donors donated blood on this occasion.

Hundreds of students, volunteers, government as well as private officials holding placards, posters, and banners joined this mass campaign rally which started from IDICOL Exhibition ground Unit III, Bhubaneswar and ends at Jayadev Bhavan, after routed through Master Canteen, Indira Park, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rajesh Jha ED JSPL said that " Voluntary Blood donation through Community and Employees' participation is one of the most cherished CSR missions of JSPL We continue to work towards our vision to extend our perennial support to the local Blood bank through such voluntary blood donation drives enabling the blood bank to provide appropriated blood to the needy."

The environment echoed with slogans such as 'Donate Blood Save Four Lives', 'Share Blood - Share Life', etc. during the entire rally. Organizing such an event, OSACS said that "In spite of the rapid and remarkable advancements in medical science today, no factory can manufacture blood. It is only in human beings that human blood is made and circulated. Hence, donation rather voluntary donation is the only way of accumulating blood at safe storage to meet emergency requirement for saving lives."

Orissa achieved 69% of voluntary blood collection target during 2010 and from January till July 2011, the achievement is 76% against the national target of 90%.

It is noteworthy that JSPL has been awarded as the most responsible corporate to organize voluntary blood donation by the Red Cross in 2011.
