Economic Times reported that Jindal Steel and Power plans to start mining at Jitpur coal block here within eight months and has secured all statutory clearances except stage-II forest clearance.

JSPL's chairman Mr Naveen Jindal told reporters here on the sidelines of foundation stone laying ceremony of the company's 1320 MW power plant said that "We plan to begin mining from Jitpur block within six to eight months. All the statutory clearances have been received except stage-II forest clearance. That is also at an advanced stage.”

Last year, government had decided to deduct bank guarantee of JSPL for not meeting the timeline given for the development of the block at the time of its allotment.

The coal block has mineable reserves of 60 million tonnes and would be sufficient for meeting one unit of 660 MW for the Godda power plant for 15 years.

Jitpur block was among one of the 58 mines for which the an inter ministerial panel had issued showcause notices to companies, which failed to develop blocks within stipulated timeline.
