ET reported that JSW Steel hopes to start work in December on the INR 20,000 crore Greenfield steel and power project, which promises 3 million tonnes in additional steel capacity in the first phase.
Mr Biswadip Gupta joint managing director and CEO of JSW Bengal Steel said that "We are waiting for final land clearance papers. Following this, we will apply for the lease document. But work is on at full swing to build the township for the 1,000 employees who will be a part of the initial project staff.”
He added that "Some 1,500 people, including 600 locals are already working on the township, internal roads and grading of soil.”
The company is getting in a 60 member specialist team from its Bellary plant in Karnataka to spearhead the project.
Mr MS Suresh, commercial chief of JSW's Salboni project said that "We will bring the learning’s from Bellary and apply it at Salboni.”
The project, conceived in 2006, was put on a backburner when economic slowdown in 2008 crimped demand for steel.
