Tines of India reported that to put an end to land acquisition problems, the JSW Steel Limited has come up with an innovative approach for its proposed 10 million tonnes per annum steel plant in Jharkhand.
As per report, JSW has constituted village committees to facilitate land acquisition in all six villages of Sonahatu block in Ranchi district.
The committee comprising of local villagers will negotiate with the company on price per acre and welfare of local people before the land is transferred.
The committees were constituted as the company was not able to get required land despite its best efforts in the past five years.
The report quoted a company official as saying that "What was not achieved in five years has become a reality within a few days. We are making good progress and we expect to start construction within a few months.”
Mr Nagendra Kumar GM corporate relations of JSW said that apart from involving the villagers in land acquisition, the company has also started various schemes under its corporate social responsibility to provide healthcare facilities. The company has also decided to adopt all the villages around the plant once the construction work starts.
JSW has singed the MoU for investment of around INR 35,000 crore and for creating direct and indirect employment for around 60,000 people.
