
The state of Jammu and Kashmir is going to have its firs cable-stayed bridge at Basohli in Kathua district. The 592 meter bridge will be built by the Border Roads Organisation of the Ministry of Defense at a cost of INR 145 crore.
The Chairperson of National Advisory Council Ms Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the project.
Scheduled to be constructed by September 2014, the bridge will open up avenues for commercial mining of materials like Gypsum and Lime stone.
It will usher in new technology in harmony with the beautiful surroundings; provide an impetus to development and tourism by connecting the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, besides opening a new strategic route in the region.
