With the Railway budget giving a special nudge to development of railway infrastructure, especially the dedicated freight corridor proposals, KEC International is gearing up to sharpen its focus on composite railway infrastructure projects.
Part of the INR 13,500 crore RPG Group, a major EPC player in the power transmission and distribution space, KEC International is engaged in railway electrification projects. It intends to foray into railway infrastructure development projects including laying of tracks, through strategic alliances with local private players initially.
However, KEC is also hastening its investments, both in terms of adding manpower and building capacities, into a newly created division that will handle all railway related projects.
Mr Ramesh Chandak MD & CEO of KEC said “We decided to create this new division as we plan to give a special focus to this business. We are building the manpower and infrastructure base of this division to enable us to enter the railway infrastructure business. We expect to land our first contract in a few months. It estimated the size of the railway infrastructure business at over INR 50,000 crore.”
Mr Chandak said “We were looking at the proposal to enter new geographies in this space, but because of the current situation, we will be going slow on this for the time being.”
