Local media reported that Chenab Hydro Power Projects Workers’ Union condemned the alleged maltreatment meted out to the coal mine workers by the management of J&K Minerals Limited.
At a meeting the Union which is affiliated with CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) took stock of the ‘fast unto death’ strike by the workers inside the Moghla coal mine in Kalakote.
The strike entered into third day on December 17th.
Mr Javed Ahmad Zargar, General Secretary CHPPWU and Working President CITU presided over the meeting which among others was attended by the executive members of the Union.
Mr Zargar criticized the government and the management of the J&K Minerals Limited accusing them of playing indifferent to the problems and plight of the workers.
He said the inflation has broken the back of poor workers and even the essential commodities are going out of their reach. He said “The workers are leading a miserable life due to the growing inflation which compels them to launch such programs.”
