
Exim News Service reported that Kandla Port is steadfastly maintaining its numero uno position in cargo handling having registered a throughput of 20.34 million tonne in the first 100 days of 2009-10.
The details of the various commodities handled are as under

Mr MA Bhaskarachar deputy chairman of Kandla Port Trust said “This is 0.85 million tonne or 4.36% more than the cargo it handled in the corresponding period of 2008-09.”
Mr Bhaskarachar said that “KPT was hopeful of exporting through the Port 0.5 million tonne of wheat, of the 0.9 million tonne that the government had given sanction up to March 31st 2010.
He said “The Port Trust planned to invite tenders for developing a single point mooring facility at Veera near Anjar with private participation. KPT already has a SPM facility at Vadinar and if Anjar materializes, it anticipated an additional 9 million tonne of traffic. The approximate cost of the project would be INR 830 crore.
