The MMRDA is expected to relocate commercial structures on the Mumbai Port Trust Road soon which in turn will clear its way in faster completion of the Eastern Freeway project.
The 22 kilometer Eastern Freeway runs from South Mumbai up to Ghatkopar via P D’Mello Road, MbPT Road, Anik to Panjrapol and Panjrapol to Ghatkopar.
There are 44 structures on the MbPT road of which 26 are eligible and 18 are yet to prove their eligibility. Post the resettlement and rehabilitation, the construction of the elevated freeway is likely to commence.
The INR 531 crore project implemented under the JNNURM is expected to be fully operational by July 2011. While the MMRDA is likely to spend 50% of the project cost, the Union Government and the Maharashtra Government will be investing 35% and 15% respectively.
