
Shipping container company Maersk Line said it will soon start services from Pipavav port in Gujarat to connect Gulf, Mediterranean and European markets with a view to facilitate trade from North and North West India.
Mr Rizwan Soomar MD of Maersk India said that “Maersk Line is the only carrier to provide a direct service from Pipavav into the Middle East and Mediterranean ports.”
The release added that the service would begin from April 6th 2009. It said that shippers from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat would have direct service coverage into the Mediterranean ports and Gulf from Pipavav.
It added that “This direct service from Pipavav will help our customers from North and North West India more efficiently realize opportunities that the growing Middle East and Mediterranean markets offer.”
