It is reported that authorities have finally given clearance for the Maltese registered ship to anchor at Chennai port. This was authorized following a day search after an anonymous call had been made, claiming that radioactive material existed aboard the ship.
Nuclear experts conducted the checks of MV Garland as well as searches by scientists before the clearance was given. Authorities have not yet announced when the ship can enter the port since there are five other ships also waiting to anchor.
The MV Garland had filed papers to anchor on November 17 to unload 10’000 tonnes of cement, granite and other construction material.
