
HT reported that Maoist frontal organizations have vowed to stall the proposed mega steel plant of JSW Steel Ltd at Salboni 150 kilometer west of Kolkata in West Bengal.
Mr Ashok Jiban Ghosh secretary of Durniti O Samrajyabadi Agrashan Birodhi Ganatantrik Mancha an umbrella organisation of pro Maoist groups told Hindustan Times that "We will not let the steel plant come up in Salboni.”
The hardliner stance comes within five days of Mr Sajjan Jindal vice chairman and managing director meeting of JSW Steel Ltd and chief minister Mr Mamata Banerjee on the INR 35,000 crore project, the single largest investment in West Bengal till date.
After the meeting with Ms Banerjee, where both sides seemingly inched towards overcoming land acquisition hurdles, Jindal had said work on the 10 million tonnes per annum plant would start after the festive season in October.
