Long steel product market in India was in for correction mode last week. It is learnt that owing to fading transactions in the market the secondary sector, groaning under adamant input prices which looms to increase further in the coming the days, the pressure has mounted on the mills to liquidate stocks to generate liquidity.
Although the happenings in long product market since March have been more of cosmetic exercise swinging to the speculative moods and the international input material prices rather than actual market demand. However this temperamental undulation has become a salient feature off late when there is scarcity of other driving forces.
Summer time typically being a period of short supply owing to typical handicaps related to power and labour shortage is not epitome of demand.
On the other hand the slide in flat products was much more pronounced and spread across all categories.
The Indian Long Product Price Index ILPPI has gone down by 3 points last week whereas Indian Flat Products Index IFPPI continued in downward trends with 17 points. The overall price index INDSPI declined by 9 points.
