Month opening crackle is fading away even before the dust has settled in the long product steel market in India.
As it was opined by us that this blitzkrieg was unlikely to last since it had made a defiant rally against severe odds like off season, slackening demand in the aftermath of hike in interest rates etc.
However the twin factors of iron ore and sponge iron shortage after the ban on mining in Bellary along with power shortage in Northern region had emboldened the secondary sector to push for price hike riding in a bid to encash upon the fear of hike in raw material cost and shortage . However with the demand playing truant it was unlikely to sustain purely on emotive grounds.
Edifice is tumbling like a house of cards even before the completion sending the market in usual hiatus. Although monsoon has been scanty this year but the hangover is likely to extend till end August before the true picture of revival emerges.
The Indian Long Product Price Index ILPPI surged by 219 points last week whereas Indian Flat Products Index IFPPI has gone up by 42 points. The overall price index INDSPI inclined by 135 points.
