Negative sentiments prevailed in the Indian steel market for both long and flat products last week. The Indian Long Product Price Index ILPPI was in down ward trends with 13 points last week whereas Indian Flat Products Index IFPPI also dropped by 48 points. The overall price index INDSPI declined by 29 points.
Prolonged festival mod starting from Pitra Paksha , Navratra , Diwali culminating in Chaat on 12th November has resulted in shortage of labour leading to lull in construction activity. In addition, lack of credit in the market has slowed transactions as the businessmen are diverting money for settlement of accounts.
The silver lining is that there is existence of inherent demand form project, construction and stockists which is suppressed owing to the prolonged festivals ticking to go off at the first opportunity. It is also learnt that rerollers in Raigarh are going on strike from 24th October which might just ignite the speculation of shortage culminating in price hike.
