Economic Times reported that Mr Samir Kumar Barua director of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and currently independent director on the board of Coal India, breaking the mould of an independent director, has challenged several key board decisions of the country's de facto coal mining monopoly.
He wrote a letter to Coal India board members suggesting that CIL not sign fuel supply agreements with power producers till clarity emerges on the entire coal scam.
He sought information on the power projects and their owners to ascertain whether any of the entities have any link with Coalgate.
Following Barua's lead, other independent directors too have raised questions over the signing of such agreements.
