Ms Vijaya Kanth has taken over as the new Financial Commissioner (Railways) and ex officio secretary to the government of India. She assumed her charge on December 26th 2011. Prior to her appointment as FC in Railway Board, Ms Kanth was General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) Organization of Guwahati.

A 1975 batch officer from Indian Railway Account Service, Ms Vijaya Kanth is a Post Graduate in Political Science from Madras University and joined Indian Railways on July 14th 1976.

She had worked in different capacities in Southern Railway/Open Line and Construction, Konkan Railway and NF Railway. She had also worked as Executive Director/Vigilance in Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd from April 24th 1997 to October 23rd 2002. During that period she had initiated lot of system improvement in the Vigilance Organization there.

She also earlier worked as Adviser, Finance in Railway Board.
