After a prolong delay the INR 8,800 crore (USD 1,760 million) Mumbai Trans Harbor Link is back on track. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the new project developer has called for pre qualification bids. The Mumbai Trans Harbor Link, which is popularly called MTHL plans to connect Sewri in the island city area of Mumbai with Nhava in Navi Mumbai.

The entire project would be implemented through public-private partnership on the design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis.

The sea link would 22 kilometer long, consisting of 16.5 kilometer sea ridge across Mumbai harbor and 5.5 kilometer long viaducts (small span bridges) on Sewri and Nhava ends. In the project design interchanges are also proposed at Sewri to connect to Mumbai city's Eastern freeway and at Chirle to connect to the NH 4B for faster traffic dispersal. Mr Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA in a press statement said that the link will help boost development of Navi Mumbai and Raigad district.

A pre-bid conference would be held on December 14 for intending bidders to raise their queries or make suggestions. MMRDA will respond to their queries by December 26. By February 7, 2012, the bidder would have submitted their final bid for qualification.
After that MMRDA, will take about three week to announce the short list of qualified bidders.

Once this process is complete then the financial bid would be opened.
