
The New Mangalore Port has set a new record by handling 200,000 tonnes of LPG in July. In the process, it surpassed the earlier record of 186,000 tonnes handled during March 2011.
A leader in handling LPG in the country, the port registered a growth rate of 23.4% by handling 713,000 tonnes of LPG in 2011-12 (up to July 2011) compared to 5,77,000 tonnes handled during the same period of last year.
The Port also witnessed a 17% growth in container traffic, at 17,262 TEUs, during the current year (up to July 2011) as against 14,676 TEUs handled during the same period of the previous year.
It also handled 23 heavy consignments for MRPL expansion works.
