
The power equipment manufacturing plant of the NTPC-BHEL JV NBPPL will be set up at Mannavaram in Andhra Pradesh and entail an investment of INR 6,000 crore.
The plant which is slated to be fully operational by 2014 will have an annual capacity to manufacture up to 5,000 MW of equipment. It is billed as the country's first integrated plant making turbines, generators and boilers at one place.
Mr C P Singh CMD of NBPPL said that "The integrated plant which will have capacity to manufacture up to 5,000 MW of power equipment annually, will come up in Mannavaram in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh about 120 kilometer from Chennai.”
Mr Singh added that "This will be the first integrated plant in the country to manufacture turbines, generators and boilers under one roof.”
The Andhra Pradesh government had allotted 750 acres last month for the project.
NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Private Ltd said that the funding of the INR 6,000 crore project will have debt-equity ratio of 1:1, or in equal proportion. It added that the JV will will also execute power projects and BHEL has already placed orders on NBPPL for the two plants it is setting up a 726 MW gas based power project for ONGC Tripura Company Ltd and 100 MW power plant for Assam Power Generating Company Ltd.
