The Hindu reported that contrary to global trends, state run NTPC is on a hiring spree as it is recruiting 1,000 fresh professionals in the current fiscal against 735 in 2008-09.

Mr RS Sharma CMD of NTPC told reporters that "We plan to hire 1,000 freshers during 2009-10. We hired 735 fresh engineering graduates including 460 through campus recruitments in the previous financial year.”

He said that "The attrition rate of the executives during 2008-09 was 1.77% as compared to 3.1% in 2007-08."

The total employee strength as on March 31st 2009 is 24,698 as against 24,547 on the same day last year. This excludes employees in the company's joint ventures and subsidiaries.
