According to a top NTPC official of the Kaniha plant, one of the 6500 MW units of NTPC-Kaniha, which was shut down will be restored.

The official said the unit developed a technical snag in its boiler. However, it is being attended to by engineers round the clock and will resume generation as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the plant, billed as the second largest in India is currently generating at only about 90% plant load factor. The source attributed the low production and the 10% plant load factor shortfall, to a shortage of coal stock. The plant has been reeling under the acute shortage of coal stock for several months.

Sourced added that only 23,000 tonne of coal are available instead of the 0.7 million tonne suggested in the guidelines of the central electrical authority. Orissa, per the allocation, gets about 600 MW from this plant.
