Economic Times reported that the Loha Mandi of Naraina, which was once the hub for iron and steel trading in the national capital region is suffering due to the emergence of similar trading centers in the neighboring states.
Many traders have shifted base or started new centers in the nearby districts, such as Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Bhiwadi, Ballabhgarh among others. In order to survive, some traders have diversified and have started offering new services.
Mr Radhey Shyam Khandelwal general secretary of Naraina Iron and Steel Merchants' Welfare Association said that "The main reason for the sorry state of the mandi is the lack of projects that will create demand for iron and steel in the market. The demand has been very low since the beginning of the year."
