
In spite of a steep shortfall in the handling of iron ore fines, the New Mangalore Port Trust registered a growth of 4.81% in overall cargo handling in the first three months of 2011-12.
The total cargo handling at the port in the first quarter of the current financial year stood at 8.53 million tonnes as against 8.13 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
The export of iron ore fines cargo from the port came down to 49,000 tonnes during the April-June 2011 period. The port handled around 0.720 million tonnes of iron ore fines in April to June 2010.
