It is reported that the Indian subsidiary of Japanese auto giant Nissan is all set to commence the exports of the recently launched Sunny sedan to West Asia and Africa from early 2012. The decision has been taken in a bid to tap the high demand for this segment of cars in these regions.
The Nissan Sunny model was launched in the Indian market on September 20th 2011 and so far the company has received bookings for 659 units of this car in the country. The Nissan Sunny is priced in the range of INR 578,000 to INR 768,000, where it is competing with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Ford Fiesta in the Indian market. The company will start delivering Sunny sedan in the country from later this week.
In a statement, Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama MD of the company said that "Though our priority is the local market, we will also aggressively pursue export volumes."
Meanwhile, the company is planning to launch a multipurpose vehicle in the Indian auto market, in the segment of Toyota Innova. The new MPV will be rolled out next year. However, the pricing and specification details of the car are yet to be disclosed by the firm.
While further elaborating company’s exports strategy, Mr Tokuyama said that "This time around we are targeting the West Asia because of the demand there. Besides, we have already placed sedans from our UK and Spanish units in the European market."
