On November 23rd, POSCO Maharashtra held a ceremony attended by Mr Lee Si-woo CEO and other employees to bring online 220 of power for the CGL plant.
The CGL plant construction project involved the installation of 14 steel towers and a cable network located 4 kilometers from the plant. The construction was initially scheduled to take place in January this year, but land owners refused to permit the use of their land, suspending construction for several months. Eventually the steel towers were relocated to another site, and the company successfully commenced construction after negotiating with the local community, agreeing to provide transportation for children commuting to a nearby school.
The bulk of the construction took place from July to August, which is also the rainy season in India. As the region has annual precipitation of 4,500 mm, it was no easy task.
Employees had to wrestle with locals` unreasonable compensation demands and frequent downpours. Irresponsible behavior of local authorities was also a stumbling block.
Mr Lee said that “Everyone said it couldn’t be done. But by putting wisdom together and working as one, we felt that we could achieve anything.”
The recent construction has enabled POSCO Maharashtra to launch test drive service of air pumps and oil pressure lines. The company is accelerating efforts to complete the construction one month ahead of schedule by April next year.
