ANI reported that violent protests broke out on Sunday at POSCO's plant in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha against a pre dawn police crackdown on villagers who were agitating over their eviction from the site.

Land acquisition for the RPOSCO steel plant started in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district on February 3 after a gap of more than one year amid allegations by anti project activists that protesters were baton charged and detained by the police.
The Police did not even spare women and children during their baton charge.

Villagers claimed that they were protesting against the government's move to forcefully acquire their land for the South Korean based steel company.

According to media reports, twelve platoons of police have been deployed at the site.

POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samiti leader Mr Abhay Sahu was quoted by a television channel, as saying that at least seven persons are in police custody at an unknown place. The police have denied this charge.
