BL reported that Communist Party of India general secretary Mr AB Bardhan on Tuesday reiterated his party's opposition to the proposed 12 million tonne per annum capacity steel plant project of POSCO in Jagatsinghpur district Orissa.
Talking to presspersons on his arrival here, Mr. Bardhan also opposed the POSCO's proposal for captive iron ore mining and captive port facility for the proposed steel plant.
The CPI leader is scheduled to visit Balitutha on Wednesday to address a meeting of the villagers opposing the establishment of the proposed steel mill.
It was at Balitutha that police had fired rubber bullets and teargas shells and resorted to lathi charge to chase away hundreds of villagers who were staging a dharna since January 26 this year. About 100 people were injured in the police action.
