A group of South Korean nationals visited Dhinkia area near Paradip, the site of POSCO India's proposed steel project after the local police allowed them to enter and met people opposing the INR 51,000 crore project.
Three members of Korean Confederation of Trade Union and Korean House for International Solidarity met Mr Abhay Sahu the president of POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samiti the CPI backed farmers body.
Mr Sahu whose organization is spearheading the anti land acquisition movement at the project site told PTI that “The three South Koreans met me and expressed their solidarity to the anti POSCO movement.”
The group had told the people at Dhinkia that POSCO had told South Koreans that the company was implementing the steel project peacefully in Orissa with the help of local people.
The same group had staged a demonstration in front of POSCO's Seoul office earlier this year opposing the company's move in India. The matter relating to the visit of the three South Koreans came to light when they were intercepted by the police near Indian Oil's refinery project at Paradip last evening.
