POSCO war zone - Orissa warns to evict PPSS camp

Orissa Diary reported that district administration has warned the POSCO Pratirodha Sangram Samiti to stop the construction of a shelter at Ballitutha otherwise this shelter will be demolished by using the police forces.

The decision of the administration to demolish PPSS camp has brought strong resentment among the agitators who have been intensifying stir since two months against POSCO steel project.

Mr Naveen Patnaik chief minister of Orissa after assured the South Korean President of expediting the work relating to proposed POSCO project in Jagatsighpur district on the occasion January 26th 2010 the activists of PPSS have been intensifying their indefinite mass dharana at Balitutha to protest this project.

CPI backed PPSS which has been spearheading the anti POSCO movement in Dhinkia and Gobindpur, proposed POSCO project since three to four years have been demonstrated agitation at Balitutha, the entry point to proposed project site Dhinkia, Nuagaon and Gadkujang panchyats since two months. PPSS was determined not to allow land acquisition process in project site at any cost because they have committed to give their blood and life in stead of their fertile land. Affected people are ready to go any extent for their survival as farming is the main source of their livelihood.

Hundreds of affected villagers including women, children are sitting on mass dharana at Balitutha since two months with dews and heat wave. Meanwhile, PPSS has decided to construct a temporary shelter at Baitutha to intensify stir for protection from heat wave and dews. Meanwhile, administration warned PPSS activists not to construct a shelter at Balitutha to avert law and order situation of encroachment of land. Even, Erasama tahsildar Mr Jeevan Mallick and police officials rushed to the spot to stop the construction work of temporary shelter. In spite of ban, PPSS activists have forcibly erected temporary shelter at Balitutha to intensify stir against POSCO steel project.
