DHNS reported that people in Halligudi, Mevundi, Jantli-Shirur and Pethalur villages were in a celebratory mood on Thursday, following the government’s decision to stop the land acquisition process for the steel plant.

The farmers, especially the womenfolk, reached their fields in tractors and performed pooja there.

Some of them touched their foreheads to the ground even as tears of joy rolled down their cheeks. The offered prayers to an idol of Basavanna and offered him mandakki.

Farmers’ leader Mr YN Gowdara and Mr Lakshman Desai chairman of the anti land acquisition committee and others were present on the occasion.
