Statesman News Service reported that officers of the district administration interacted with the members of United Action Committee to restore peace and create a conducive atmosphere for the proposed POSCO project.
The UAC members drew attention of the administration to the families who had fled the villages over the last four years.
The UAC wanted the administration to ensure safe return of the families so that they can avail the benefits of the rehabilitation and resettlement package.
District collector Mr Gyanranjan Dash lauded the efforts of the UAC and also informed that the administration will discuss all issues related to the project and the local people with the local MLAs and MPs. Meanwhile, two municipal employees were suspended for allegedly manhandling a watchman and ransacking the office recently.
The UAC is widely regarded as an outfit favouring the project as opposed to the POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samiti spearheading the anti project movement in the area.
