
It is reported that Paradip Port Trust authority has taken steps to remove the salvage of sunken vessel and its cargo to check the pollution after the decision of the central government.
The Assembly Standing Committee on environment led by Mr Amar Sathpathy chairman of Paradip Port visited sunken vessel 'Black Rose 'at Paradip Wednesday to study the environment and pollution on sea also discussed with officials about the removal of oil , salvage and cargo from its. The committee has satisfied on the activities of PPT authority for removal pf oil.
Earlier Paradip Port awarded tender for the major work, retrieval of over 975 MT of oil from the tanks of the sunken vessel to USA based bidder M/s Resolve Marine Groups from Florida, USA, to discharge oil at the cost of INR 17.50 cores. Meanwhile, this bidder completed the removal of all furnace oil from sunken vessel. The fuel oil was in three other tanks of the sunken vessel in which survey is going on remove oil from different tanks.
Similarly, environmentalists filed PIL in Odisha High Court for demanding to remove salvage and cargo while director of environment, government of Odisha had sent a letter to the authority of PPT to remove the ship to prevent break water because the sunken vessel has blocked movement of sand on the beach that would subsequently squeeze the shore's space in Gahirmatha affecting mass nesting of turtles. Besides this, the vessel has 23, 847 metric tones of iron ore cargo. PPT authority has been taken steps to remove the cargo and salvage from sea.
Mr Biplav Kumar deputy chairman of Paradip Port has expressed that US bidder has been removed all furnace oil from sunken ship so survey is going on to remove diesels and grease oils from other tanks from it . He expressed that removal of oil from sunken vessel would be completed within one or two days. He also informed that as per the decision of central government, process is going on to remove salvage and cargo from sea.
