Projects Today reported that Petronet LNG may infuse INR 14,500 crore in various allied projects related to its proposed LNG terminal scheduled to be commissioned in Puthuvypeen near Kochi, Kerala by 2011.

Besides the terminal, the other projects included a 1,068 MW plant at an investment of INR 3,250 crore, GAIL's pipeline linking Bangalore and Mangalore via Coimbatore, Erode and Salem for city gas supply worth INR 5,000 crore and for procuring LNG vessels INR 2,500 crore. 30% of the capital for the projects is likely to be raised from internal accruals and the remaining will be raised by re-visiting the capital markets much before 2011.

According to sources, some of the sections of the LNG unit will have to be relocated to the adjoining area to accommodate the integrated power plant. Around 40 ha is required and GAIL has approached the Cochin Port Trust and the Kerala Government for this purpose. Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation which is holding 22.8 ha in the area has been requested to allot the land for the power project.
