Reliance Power has commissioned another 300MW unit of its power project at Rosa in Uttar Pradesh, taking the total capacity to 900MW.
The company has already commissioned two units of 300MW at Rosa and the project is expected to achieve full capacity of 1,200MW by March 2012.
Announcing the commissioning on the 80th birth anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani, Reliance Power CEO Mr J P Chalsani said the plant was operating at 85% capacity and Chinese equipment, sourced from the Shanghai Electric Company, was functioning well.
Mr Chalasani said power generated from the project would be sold to Uttar Pradesh distribution company at a tariff to be determined by the state electricity regulator.
He said average tariff from power projects based on domestic coal was about 3 per unit. Chalsani said the tariff would depend on blending cost of imported coal. The company was importing coal from Indonesia and blending up to 40% of imported coal with domestic fuel.
