
Mr RPN Singh minister of state for road transport and highways informed the Rajya Sabha that to provide connectivity to all the State Capitals and District Headquarters in the North-East Region, the Government has formulated a Program known as Special Accelerated Road Development Program for the North-East Region.
It envisages two/four laning of about 9740 km length of roads. Out of this, Phase A of SARDP-NE has been approved involving improvement of 2,596 km length of roads for a total estimated cost of INR 14,903 crore which is to be met from budgetary allocation. Also, the Arunachal Pradesh Package, included under the program involving improvement of 2,319 kilometer length of roads has also been approved for implementation for a total estimated cost of INR 12,500 crore which is to be met from budgetary allocation.
Phase-B of SARDP-NE has been approved for preparation of Detailed Project Reports involving 4,825 km length of roads. Phase-A of SARDP-NE is targeted for completion by March 2014. The Arunachal Pradesh Package is targeted for completion by March 2015.
