Royal Enfield to expand capacity at Chennai plant

Motorbike manufacturer Royal Enfield an Eicher Group company proposes to pump in INR 65 crore to double the capacity of its Chennai plant from 50000 to 100000 units by 2013.

As per report the company has already invested INR 65 crore in the existing plant in Chennai. The company plans to add a production capacity of about 10000 units in 2010 and reach the target of 100000 units per annum by 2013.

Mr Siddhartha Lal MD & CEO of Eicher Motors told reporters that “We will expand production capacity to 100000 units in the next three year from the current 50,000 units at our existing plant (in Chennai).”

Asked about investments for the expansion he said that “We had invested Rs65 crore in the existing facility in the last five years for the current capacity and a similar amount or slightly more may be required.”
