ET reported that Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bhilai Steel Plant has developed and rolled out three special grades of steel in the current fiscal year for use by the Indian Railways.
These include the end forged thick web asymmetric rail, corrosion resistant grade of plate for manufacture of bogey frames for rail coaches and a new grade of plates for use in the manufacture of pressure vessel in petrochemical projects.
The Bhilai Steel Plant's newly developed corrosion resistance plates would be used by BEML to manufacture bogey frames for rail coaches for the Delhi Metro project.
The plant had earlier developed the thick web asymmetric rail for use in switch points back in year 2006 as per requirement of Indian Railways.
Of late, with the successful installation and commissioning of end-forging facilities, the plant is now ready to commercially supply end-forged thick web asymmetric rail to Indian Railways.
The two other special grades of plates that are in advanced stage of development include a special grade plate for manufacture of pressure vessels. The grade developed for Titagarh Wagon Ltd would be used for manufacture of high speed light weight wagons.
The other new grade in advanced stage of development is a dual-grade boiler quality plate for GR Engineering to be used for intermediate and low temperature application by boiler and pressure vessel manufacturers
