
The state industries department entered into a MoU with Shiva Cement Ltd for capacity expansion of cement plant at Kutra and split grinding unit at Jajpur. The expansion plan involves an investment of INR 800 crore.
The company intends to scale up the capacity of the Kutra cement unit from 0.132 million tonne per annum to 1 million tonnes per annum and raise capacity of the split grinding unit near Jajpur from 1 million tonnes per annum in Phase I to 2.6 million tonnes per annum in the phase II.
The MoU was signed between Mr T Ramachandru principal secretary Orissa government and Mr Bimal Kumar Mangaraj director of Shiva Cement in the presence of minister for industries and steel & mines Mr Raghunath Mohanty.
Mr Mohanty said that "The state has created a capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum in the cement sector of which the actual production is in the range of 5 million tonnes per annum to 6 million tonnes per annum. There are three cement plants operational in the state and there is scope for cement production of up to 30 million tonnes per annum. Shiva Cement has agreed to follow the employment norms as stipulated in the 10th meeting of the High Level Clearance Authority."
