
The South Central Railway has registered total freight loading of 24.73 million tonnes in the Q1 ended June 30th 2011, as against 22 million tonnes in the same period last year, showing a growth of 12.4%. For the quarter, the zone earned originating earnings of INR 1,916 crore, 70% of it coming from freight operations.
Mr Sunil K Agarwal chief operations manager of SCR said that “We are confident of crossing the 100 million tonne mark for the full year. For the fully year 2010-11, we registered loading of 96.2 million tonnes as against 86 million tonnes in the previous year.
He added that going by the growth rates, we are confident of crossing that mark this financial year. He said coal topped the list with 12.77 million tonnes in the quarter, showing a growth of 14.4%.
Cement, which continued to occupy second position in volumes, however, saw a decline at 5.95 million tonnes as against 6.41 million tonnes in the corresponding quarter last year, witnessing a decline of 4.54%.
