PTI reported that TATA Power is scouting for coal mines in four countries, including Australia and Mozambique, to secure fuel supplies for its 4,000 MW Mundra ultra mega power project in Gujarat.

According to an investor presentation made this month, the company is looking for additional mines in Australia, Mozambique, South Africa and Indonesia for Mundra UMPP.

Mundra project, the country's first UMPP, is fired by imported coal which is currently procured from Indonesia. Mundra project's first 800 MW unit became operational in March and the second one is expected to be commissioned in August. It has five units, each having 800 MW capacity. The project needs about 10 to 12 million tonnes of imported coal per annum.
