
The Tamil Nadu state cabinet on Saturday gave approval for six major industrial projects involving total investment of INR 8,996 crore. The 52nd meeting of the Cabinet, with chief minister Mr M Karunanidhi presiding, examined the projects and accepted them.
They included
1. INR 4,320 crore LPG import terminal near Ennore here to be jointly set up by Indian Oil Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation
2. INR 262 crore SIPCOT Industrial Parks at Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli district and Nilakottai in Dindigul district
3. Sundareshwar Alloy and Stainless Steel Group companies at Vettaikaraniruppu in Nagapattinam district and Sooravandi in Sivaganga district;
4. The INR 1,042 crore cement factory at Ariyalur
5. Expansion of cement unit at Ramasamyraja Nagar in Virudhunagar
6. Cement crushing units at Kattupudur in Kancheepuram district and Vazhappadi in Salem district of Madras Cements.
Nearly 17,000 persons will get employment from the six projects, 6,000 of whom will be benefited directly.
The cabinet also discussed the delay caused in giving the sale deeds to allottees of Housing Board houses, procedural deficiencies, cases pending and recommendations of the high level committee headed by Justice Bhaskaran.
