
Express News Service reported that Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator Pvt Limited, a JV between JSW Group and Japan based electrical and electronics major Toshiba Corporation, it would begin manufacture of turbines and generators for super critical thermal power plants in 2011.
Mr Atsuhiko Izumi executive VP of Power Systems Company of the Toshiba Corporation said “The Tamil Nadu government would provide the necessary support for the setting up of the manufacturing unit near Ennore port. Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator P Limited had inked a pact with the government of Tamil Nadu recently.”
According to the 11 and 12 Five Year National Electricity plans of the Union government, “The Indian power generation equipment market is expected to see a demand growth of 15,000 MW to 16,000 MW a year for the next decade. Coal fired thermal power stations will account for over 60% of the capacity growth and 80% of those power stations will be the highly efficient super critical thermal power plants.”
In this background, Toshiba JSW would invest about USD 160 million in plant and manufacturing equipment over 5 years from 2009. The construction of the plant will start this year and manufacturing will start in January 2011.
