The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation is looking for a consultant to do an Environment Impact Assessment study for the proposed mega power project at Cheemeni in Kasaragod district.
As per report, the state cabinet gave the go ahead for the project in February this year and appointed KSIDC as the nodal agency to coordinate the various activities. KSIDC is also in the process of selection of a consultant for carrying out a detailed Techno Economic Feasibility Report and a Detailed Project Report to develop the project.
In fact, the proposal is to set up a 1,300 MW coal based thermal project and another 1100 MW combined cycle project based on gas. The State Government has already earmarked 2,000 acres belonging to Plantation Corporation of Kerala for the project.
To carry out the preliminary work, a special purpose vehicle is being floated with equal equity participation of KSIDC and the Kerala State Electricity Board.
The SPV with an initial authorised capital of INR 10 crore will be responsible for making available the necessary infrastructure for the project, finding a coal mining block and seeking all the regulatory clearances.
The final implementation will be carried out by a developer to be selected through a competitive bidding process.
