Mr A Sai Prathap minister of state in the ministry of steel said that there is no provision regarding the number of employment in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the government of Orissa with POSCO India Limited.

However, as per a study conducted by National Council of Applied Economic Research in 2006, the expected job creation, after achievement of 12 million tonne capacity for POSCO, would be 870,000 person years for 30 years period. This study has not been endorsed by any government.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha he said, the project is being directly implemented by POSCO India Limited. The concerned Governments are facilitating the implementation, subjected to statutory and regulatory approvals.

He said that ministry of steel has not formulated any model guideline regarding implementation of large size steel projects. The implementation schedule and phase wise capacity expansion etc are decided by the investors themselves, based upon technology, financial, marketing and commercial considerations.
