Uttarakhand rsecures rehabilitation pack for Tehri dam

The Uttarakhand government received INR 100 crore as special assistance from the centre for carrying out rehabilitation works related to the multipurpose 2,400 MW Tehri dam.

A cheque of INR 100 crore was presented to state chief secretary Subhash Kumar at his office here by THDCIL CMD Mr RST Sai.

THDCIL is the implementation agency for the Tehri dam which has rendered thousands of people homeless during the past two decades.

Uttarakhand had earlier received INR 3 crore as the first installment of the special assistance. Chief minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri had recently discussed the issue with Union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. Besides, Kumar too had held discussions with the Cabinet secretary and the Union power secretary in this regard.

An official statement “It is as a result of sustained efforts of the state government and the state administration that the Union power ministry finally directed the THDCIL to do the needful.”

The chief secretary said that INR 100 crore would be spent on rehabilitation of the villages affected by the Tehri project as ell as for loping other infrastructure facilities there.

An amount of INR 41.44 crore would be spent on the damaged ridge of Chinyalisaur, the Ghunti-Ghansali bridge and the Dobrachanti bridge.

Besides, INR 41 crore would be spent on rehabilitation of Rolakote village which is affected by the rising of the Tehri dam water level above the 835 metre mark. The amount would be spent in providing necessary basic amenities to the people of Rolakote, such as electricity, potable water and roads, among other things.

Besides, INR 8.63 crore for making available necessary amenities in Shiwalik Nagar, Rainakote, INR 2.50 crore for Rehabilitation Directorate, and INR 2.42 crore would be spent for 800 families currently residing on the benaap land above the 835 metre height.
