
The project for setting up of underground oil storage at Visakhapatnam is likely to achieve mechanical completion by October, 2011.
Giving this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha Mr RPN Singh minister of state for petroleum & natural gas informed that in respect of projects at Mangalore and Padur, the same is likely to be achieved by mid of year 2013.
He also stated that “The Government is setting up the underground storage in the form of unlined rock caverns with total storage capacity of 5.33 million tonne to ensure the energy security of the country at three locations viz. Visakhapatnam (storage capacity: 1.33 million tonne), Mangalore (storage capacity: 1.5 million tonne) and Padur (storage capacity: 2.5 million tonne).”
