Volkswagen India reported a 72.50% increase in its sales in August at 6,091 units against 3,531 units in the same month last year.

The company in a statement said that compact car Polo and sedan Vento continued to be the backbone for the brand, with a total of 5,634 units sold in August 2011.

Mr Neeraj Garg Volkswagen Group sales India member of board and director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars said that "Despite the current market conditions, we are pleased to be able to maintain our overall sales.”
